Broadband Development the Topic at Alcona County Public Meeting
Posted May 01, 2014
By Connected Nation

Access Alcona teamed up with Connect Michigan to bring residents, county commissioners, business owners, librarians, and educators together Tuesday night to gain a greater understanding of the value of broadband access and the barriers to its development in Alcona’s lightly populated rural interior. Over 100 attendees participated in this Connected Community event.

Included in this forum were seven service providers — big and small — including Charter Communications, Frontier Communications, local Allbrand Communications Cooperative, and MiSpot.

Below is an excerpt from an article in The Alpena News on the public meeting:

Bonnie Wichtner-Zoia of Michigan State University Extension, which was the catalyst for the event, said the Internet is important, because it allows people to connect with each other. It lets students do their homework, using online research aids. It allows rural business to compete in a larger marketplace and helps local economies grow.
