New survey: 100% of Archer County residents want improved or additional options for home internet service

Countywide Technology Action Plan identifies critical needs and solutions for expanding broadband access

Archer County, TX (October 24, 2023) – The Archer County Broadband Committee, in partnership with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas), has completed a Technology Action Plan for the county. It includes input from area residents, business owners, community organizations, and others to a public survey on their unique internet needs.

“The fact that 100% of households that responded to this survey said they want improved or additional options for home internet service points to gaps in service across Archer County,” said Molly Weiner, Director, Local & Regional Planning, CN Texas. “We also learned that 2 out of 5 employed survey respondents (40%) are teleworking in some capacity. That means those home connections are critical for our county’s economic needs, which is why this Technology Action Plan is important for all of us.”

The project is designed as a regional effort to help local communities develop effective plans for tackling their unique challenges and opportunities for expanding broadband (high-speed internet) access, adoption, and use. CN Texas is the statewide program of national nonprofit, Connected Nation (CN), which works to connect all people to broadband.

The plan for Archer County, which can be found here, not only provides important data about the county’s digital footprint but has a series of recommendations (pages 15-24) for improving and expanding access — each one listed as a goal with actionable steps. Those are:

Goal 1: Develop and support a county engagement structure that ensures broadband needs are being met in Archer County.

Goal 2: Increase broadband access and reliability across Archer County.

Goal 3: Promote free and reduced-cost broadband services to ensure all residents have equitable access to the internet.
